Language Development During the Preschool Years
All kids develop on their own timeline. Instead of focusing on what skills your child is lacking celebrate all of the awesome things they are doing!! Also don't get hung up on the ages, just find where your sweet kid is at and then watch for ways to help them wherever they are in their development. Should you have any concerns or questions ask your pediatrician, they are experts!
3 YEARS OLD
Three year olds are transitioning from being a toddler to being a preschooler. Your child is learning more about the world around him. You may hear SO MANY “why?” questions this year. He is learning; try to be patient and keep giving him answers. See my handout below for an idea of some additional skills to watch for this year!

4 YEARS OLD Four year olds love to pretend play. This gives you huge opportunities to work on speech and language skills. If you use lots of describing words, your child will learn new things without even trying. Pretend play is magical, let loose, have fun, and enjoy the awesomeness that ensues. 5 YEARS OLD Most parents big concerns at this age center around kindergarten readiness.
